Figure Skater - 22 X 24 inches - black pencil on paper - 1990

Humans have been ice skating for centuries. For many reasons. There is an oil painting known as “The Skating Minister” from about 1790 they consider it an icon of Scottish culture, painted during one of the most remarkable periods in the country's history, the Scottish Enlightenment. About 200 years later I drew this figure skater of the 20th century time period, with black pencil on paper, in the same spirit as Henry Raeburn did about 200 years before me.
