In the early Renaissance, artists began to more frequently identify with the concept of depicting themselves as a principal subject or important character in their artwork. To adhere with that tradition, I painted this portrait in 2001 at a time of transition. Speaking innovatively, this painting was the precursor for the first modern day “Selfie”.
