I was tutored in the craft of Classic Patent Illustrating, beginning in 1986, in the tradition of the Renaissance where a student studies with a master. My Master was Loren Kienlen, I studied with him in Eugene, Oregon. Mr. Kienlen was not only a superb Patent Artist he was also an inventor, entrepreneur, creative and more. When I started the craft of patent illustrating our tools where just pencils, paper and pen and ink on Bristol board. I am one of the last Patent Artists to use those tools. Now, we have entered the digital age and the world has turned to the use of computers in the interest of economics and other efficiencies, brushing aside the established useful value of the visual language and traditions of hand drawn patent illustration. In the face of these changes, I have done my best to maintain the values of the visual language of Classic Patent Illustrating. You can find out more about my history and philosophy as a Patent Artist by viewing the A Face Project™ micro documentary. Or, you can find out more about Patent Drawings and Patents.
